For us, the story of Venus begins with the closing of St. Petersburg’s Bloom Art Center in 2016. Several women artists, displaced from their studios, decided to join with other local creatives to build a new intentional reality.
Together we founded the St. Pete Women’s Collective (SPWC), a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering education, empowerment, and creativity within the local community, uplifting and supporting female-identifying artists and their allies. We set up headquarters in Historic Kenwood and operated a live-work space there for two years, sharing more than 40 workshops, art shows, and studio events with the public.
Venus is the next step in our grassroots journey. Facilitated by the SPWC, Venus is a new downtown incubator for conscious creative community. Our 1,600-square-foot space, located at 244 Dr. MLK Jr. Street N., houses five artist studios, flexible co-working area, a gallery, library, and more.
